White Spaces for Cheaper wireless Internet
High-speed wireless Internet will be cheaper and more available across the United States in the near future, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission and a Google co-founder said on Thursday.
FCC Chairman Kevin Martin and Larry Page, president, products for Google said a decision on Tuesday by the U.S. agency to open unused television spectrum known as "white space" along with better radios, can help improve Internet access in urban and rural areas.
Radio is at the heart of Wi-Fi, wireless mobile phones, and Blackberry's.

Windows "Cloud" will Start the New Era?
“Just as we have an operating system for the PC, for the phone, and for the server, we need a new operating system that runs in the Internet,” Mr. Ballmer said during a speech in France on Thursday. “I bet we’ll call it Windows something. We’re going to announce it in four weeks. We might even have a trademark by then. So, for today I’ll call it Windows Cloud. And Windows Cloud will be a place where you can run arbitrary applications up in the Internet. . .”
What do you think of the press release from Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive? Mr. Ballmer has mentioned this operating system, dubbed Windows Cloud, at events in London and Paris. The name-dropping comes ahead of Microsoft’s Professional Developers Conference later this month in Los Angeles.
The actual name will be mentioned within these four weeks. What I think is, Windows is very prepared to be the leader. It is similar when they came up more than a decade ago. What do you have in mind regarding future home? In many answers, we have something in common, the need of digital home. Some researcher says that it is the beginning of the end of television era.
According to Roger Geerts, director of systems engineering Australia and New Zealand at Juniper Networks, the network into the home is being driven by consumer demand for content on devices such as TV and advances in delivery via devices such as personal recorders and video on demand.
“While we don’t have the broadband speeds needed yet, in five years the only thing that you would watch as a TV broadcast is sporting events that make sense
to see live."
The concern of of this kind of future home by applying home network is entertainment.
Vincent Kennedy, chief engineer networking applications group at NEC, said the main drivers for home networking in Australia are centred on entertainment.

Solar Cell to your Home

To calculate how many square inches of solar panel you need for a house, you need to know:
How much power the house consumes on average.
Where the house is located (so you can calculate mean solar days, average rainfall, etc.). This question is impossible to answer unless you have a specific location in mind. We'll assume that on an average day the solar panels generate their maximum power for 5 hours.
The first question is actually pretty interesting, so let's work on it.
A "typical home" in America can use either electricity or gas to provide heat -- heat for the house, the hot water, the clothes dryer and the stove/oven. If you were to power a house with solar electricity, you would certainly use gas appliances because solar electricity is so expensive. This means that what you would be powering with solar electricity are things like the refrigerator, the lights, the computer, the TV, stereo equipment, motors in things like furnace fans and the washer, etc. Let's say that all of those things average out to 600 watts on average. Over the course of 24 hours, you need 600 watts * 24 hours = 14,400 watt-hours per day.
From our calculations and assumptions above, we know that a solar panel can generate 70 milliwatts per square inch * 5 hours = 350 milliwatt hours per day. Therefore you need about 41,000 square inches of solar panel for the house. That's a solar panel that measures about 285 square feet (about 26 square meters). That would cost around $16,000 right now. Then, because the sun only shines part of the time, you would need to purchase a battery bank, an inverter, etc., and that often doubles the cost of the installation.

What is energy efficient house? At least there are 3 concepts, according to Hydro Tasman. But, I think there are things missing for tropical typical house.
We'll discuss it later.
The 3 most important concepts are
1. Glass
An energy efficient house has larger windows facing north to capture the Sun's free solar energy.
North facing windows are the most important in your home. They can gain more heat during the day than they lose at night and make your home bright and cheerful.
Design them to admit sun’s warmth in Winter.
Appropriate width eaves can reduce overheating in Summer
South facing windows are also important but not from a heating point of view.
They are useful for admitting natural light and to allow cross ventilation during summer.
2. Mass
· Have plenty of mass to absorb and store the Sun's energy for use when the sun isn't shining!
3. Insulation
· Once your home is cosy and warm, adequate insulation will keep the heat from escaping
